As part of the reworking of the NFL Experience, 2018 is the first year where teams can utilize a franchise tag. It allows teams to sign one player to a one-year deal – and cannot be given to the same player multiple times.
The franchise tag will be as follows: either $25 or the average salary of the top five players at a given position – whichever is higher. In this first season, it will be $25 for every position.
